Rotadata designs, develops and manufactures highly specialised instrumentation for use in the testing and operation of gas turbine engines.  As part of this business they produce equipment for both Industrial and Aeronautical applications, and have customers worldwide.

Business growth and company re-structuring has generated the following employment opportunities:-

International Sales Engineer

Required to operate in international turbine engine instrumentation markets and reporting directly to the Sales Manager. Applicants should have substantial turbine engine knowledge to call on engine developers to sell advanced standard and custom designed measurement systems to the aero-engine, power generating and turbocharger industries.  On the job training in commercial/contractual matters, the identification of business opportunities and advisory sales techniques will be provided as necessary.

The company’s market leading product range includes telemetry systems, optical pyrometers for turbine blade temperature measurement, blade tip timing systems, and a number of other advanced technology products. The company also offers the customized application of sensors for vibration, stress and aero-thermal measurements.

This is a long-term opportunity with ample scope for career advancement to the highest level for a suitably qualified and ambitious high performer.  The successful candidate will most likely be a qualified engineer with a sound knowledge of gas turbine operating conditions and the ability to communicate effectively with existing and new customers in Europe, Far East and USA/Canada to continue the company’s expansion within these markets.

Technical Engineer

A new post is to be created for a Technical Engineer, who will report directly to the Chief Engineer.  The successful applicant will work with the rest of the Mechanical Design team, and will be required to carry out engineering analysis work in order to support their activities.  Travel within the UK and overseas will be required from time to time, in order to accompany the Sales Team and/or Chief Engineer during visits to potential and existing customers.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate competence in most/all of the major technical disciplines usually encountered in an Aeronautical, Automotive or Mechanical Engineering degree course (e.g. mathematics, stress analysis, fluid dynamics, gas dynamics and heat transfer).  In addition, they should be able to write simple computer programs using a modern “Visual” type programming language (e.g. Visual Basic, Visual C++ or Fortran 95) or, as a minimum, use the advanced mathematical features in spreadsheets.

This position is ideal for anyone who likes the challenge of problem solving, and who wants a career based around the physical sciences.  Initially, training and general guidance will given be wherever necessary.  However, the successful candidate will need to show a willingness to learn new skills as/when required.

This position is only suitable for someone who is proactive, requires little supervision and is able to accept the responsibility associated with working as a key member of a small team.  A First or Upper Second Class Honours degree in a relevant engineering discipline is absolutely essential.  Also, several years’ experience working in a technical role in Industry would be a distinct advantage.
