Optical Pyrometry (Rotamap II)
Our Rotamap II optical pyrometers are used for the thermal
mapping of aero engine and power gas turbine rotor and
stator airfoil surfaces and for the evaluation of power gas
turbine blade life expectancy.
Temperature measurement range is 550°C upwards. High-speed data capture enables rapid sampling of every blade on the gas turbine at full engine rotating speed.
Fixed and articulating mirror sight tube designs ensure maximum coverage of blade surfaces. Sight tubes are detachable enabling the equipment to be re-located on several engines in short time scales.
Our optical pyrometers remove the need for the use of thermocouples attached to engine rotating parts and map the whole of the airfoil surface, not just at a single point as with a thermocouple.

The Rotamap II major performance blade thermal mapping characteristics include:
- Wide measurement range (550°C upwards).
- Full “Engine Specific” installation design capability.
- High-speed blade position data capture.
- Rapid and accurate capture of radiance.
- Automatic control and monitoring of data acquisition process.
- User configurable for engine and pyrometer characteristics.
- Full user training and system simulator available.
A ‘black body’ furnace is required to calibrate the pyrometer sight tube that can be provided by Rotadata or customer can use their own furnace for calibration.
