Around the Shaft

Configuring an around the shaft telemetry unit is the means by which the telemetry modules and coils can be configured around the actual engine shaft inside the engine avoiding the need to attach a telemetry unit to the end of an engine shaft where it would impede or restrict engine intake or exhaust gas flow. With an around the shaft design the wiring up and connection of the sensor signal lead out wires is usually more easy to route to the telemetry unit. However great attention has to be made to the cooling arrangements around the telemetry unit in order to protect the telemetry unit electronics.

The telemetry modules are usually RF configured and suitably housed in a module carrier which slides onto the engine shaft and is anchored onto a rotor blade disc.

All around the shaft telemetry units must be customised to suite the actual geometry of the engine onto which they will be fitted but it is possible, in some instances, to design the telemetry module carrier to be used at different positions on an engine or on different engines.

Rotadata is a full service company which offers a complete design, manufacture, installation and support service.
