HyperTel

The very high speed HyperTel digital telemetry system has been developed by Rotadata for use in the aero space industry but is now finding further applications for use on rotating equipment where shaft speeds up to 100,000 revolutions per minute (RPM) are common, for example on large diesel engine turbo-chargers.

Digital Telemetry

Three standard HyperTel systems are available. HyperTel 50, HyperTel 70 and HyperTel 100. In its standard formats, operating at 70,000 and 100,000 RPM, HyperTel 70 and HyperTel 100 will transmit simultaneously 12 dynamic strain at up to 50kHz bandwidth and 8 temperature signals at approximately 10 samples per second per channel, from the rotating shaft of an engine to the HyperTel ground station. Connections between the telemetry unit and the ground station are via three small diameter cables. The other standard version is HyperTel 50 which is suitable for rotational speeds of 50,000 RPM.

HyperTel has been developed to replace the conventional slip rings usually used for high rotational speed data transmission and, due to the compact size of the unit, generally fits easily into the space envelope required for a slip ring unit. HyperTel is a power induced, optical link, telemetry unit.,Rotadata Limited have been supplying power induced optical link telemetry systems for over ten years. As the signal transmitted inside the telemetry unit is by an optical link the noise level generated by the telemetry unit is very low, making it possible to transmit small or large strain signal values without distortion.

A simple quill shaft, allowing small axial and lateral shaft movements, connects the HyperTel unit to the engine shaft. An exit guide vane or similar is needed for mounting the telemetry unit to the engine. The HyperTel system comes fully balanced, calibrated and spin tested ready to install immediately onto your engine. The HyperTel unit can be customised to transmit a variety of signal types including static and dynamic strain, pressure and temperature.
